Review: Accurate ATD 6

E-mail Print PDF

I was lucky enough to fish a ATD6 on my last fall 10 day and was so happy with it. I felt the need to write a review. If you are in the market for a new 40/50# 2 Speed this reel is something to take a look at.

The reel as fished was loaded with 60# Jerry Brown Hollow Spectra with a very short Flouro Carbon Leader. The handle on the reel was changed out to a ATD30 sized handle. The reel was paired up with a Calstar 765L.

This combination was very light and easy to cast which was imperative on the trip to get your bait out and away from the boat to get a bite. The reel casts like a dream and freespools forever. The size of the reel is a little larger than a few of the smaller 2 speeds out on the market but its solid construction gave me the confidence to know I could land any of the bigger tuna that and been landed or suspected of spooling a few anglers using the smaller 2 speeds. My comparisons are based on my 2 speeded 12T that I normally fish 40#/50# test and my observations of other reels of this class being fished on this trip. The savings in weight is reason enough for the upgrade coupled with the smooth twin drags and the increased line capacity over the other small 2 speeds I feel you can’t go wrong with a ATD6 in your arsenal.
