Hi folks;
As most of you know the Royal Polaris returned on the 5th of February from an excellent Line-One sponsored trip. Jerry Brown sponsor of the January 19th trip is definitely one of our finest sponsors. Many gifts such as personal engraved hats, tackle gifts and cash awards for fish over 200 pounds were scooped up by our passengers on an excellent trip with 28 fish over 200 pounds with the largest 284 pound chunk fish caught by Don Burnside.
What most of you don't know is that the morning of our return the Royal Polaris picked up some very heavy nylon rope by the Coronado islands. In shorts, the result was a bent strut, and bent shaft with a bearing being destroyed and possible gearbox damage. On February 6th at 05:30 a.m. the Royal Polaris crew with the help of Brian Kiyohore and Tim Ekstrom in a smaller boat got the Royal Polaris out of its slip and down to Knight and Carver shipyard. We were out of the water by 07:30 a.m. With tremendous assistance from the boat yard crew led by Mike Abarey, machinist Jerry Gircolone, and Craig Truitt of Truitt machine, we went back in the water at 15:15 hours the next day. Our alignment was perfect, no damage to the gearbox and we were tied up at the fuel dock at 16:15 hours.
Passengers were loaded at 18:30 hours, we loaded excellent bait and cleared Point Loma at 21:10, Tuesday night. We also wont to tank Tome Dale, Greg Hibbs, and Dean Adams for their effort in making it all happen.
So now here we are on the Accurate 171/2 day fly home trip. On clearing Pt. Loma and thru the night our weather was sloppy, but shortly after daybreak and throughout the day the water has been great.
After breakfast we had a complete orientation and then Gay Gillingham of Accurate reels haded out gifts. Accurate shirts for all, beautiful tackle packages and then more T-shirts donated by Koi Marcucelli were given to our guest. Accurate reps. then handed out loaner Accurate rods and reels to all who wanted to borrow them and then crew went to work helping passengers get their gear ready. The R/p crew (Frank, Dharyl, Eddie, Jim, Evan, Kenny, Anthony, and Josh).
