June 28

June 28It was a good day of yellowtail fishing. We moved around hit a bunch of spots, feed the local sea lion population and still came away with a bunch of fish for the hold. The weather came down, we do have some drizzle, but the wind has backed off quite a bit. Lots of pictures today and I would like to mention, thanks to Kevin Cooney for the use of his Newell 533 that was converted to a 522. Kevin it works great, got a 30 pounder with it today!

June 27I would like to report BLUEFIN MAYHEM, but alas it was more like bluefin plunker bite twice during the day. We ended up with over 100 bluefin along with another 42 albacore and some more yellowfin to round out the numbers. The bluefin range in size from 20 to 40 pounds, albacore are a beautiful 25 to 35 pound average and the yellowfin are 15 pounders. Weather has been good with the wind blowing out of the north-west at about 12 knots.

June 26ALBACORE MAYHEM!!
It was an great day on the offshore grounds for us. We had consistent stops on big albacore, 20 to 35 pounds, with a smattering of smaller yellowfin thrown in the mix, but no bluefin to speak off. Believe me, the albacore made up for any shortcomings on the other species, it was really good fishing.

We have good weather, although a noticeable south swell is now rolling through from the hurricane to the south of us.

June 22It was a pretty darn tough day on the offshore scene for us. We covered lots of miles and we did see fish and found good water, but the bluefin and albacore did not want to play, for whatever reason. There were some big yellows that came from under some of the kelps along with the occasional albacore jig strike and bluefin bait fish.
