Trolling what could go wrong?Put it in the straps and wait for a strike. Actually there are quite a few things that can go wrong but we are going to just deal with one little tip that will hopefully keep the handle on your reel. What is wrong with the following picture? Yes the handle is in the down position. What difference does that make you ask? I have actually seen this happen and it’s not fishing folk lore. Example: Let’s say the boat is trolling along for the Wahoo and trolling at “looking for tuna speed” (fast) and you get a short bite or the Wahoo doesn’t stick? I’m sure you have seen it, the rod pulls tight and away from the boat and then comes flying back. This is the time that if the handle in the wrong position (down) it can hit the boat and actually break off. The funny thing was is the handle I saw break was on a fouled maunder not even a bite. Below is a better placement of the handle while trolling Wise Angler tip: Troll with the handle in the upright position. Tight Lines Brandon |
